Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) in Houston, Texas

A Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) can help restore abdominal contours after childbirth or weight loss/weight gain. This procedure removes excess abdominal tissue of the lower abdomen, tightens abdominal muscles, and is often performed with liposuction of the abdomen and love handles to help achieve an hourglass figure. Tummy Tuck is a very popular procedure in Houston, Texas and one of the most common procedures performed by the plastic surgeons at The Oaks Plastic Surgery (TOPS), Dr. Danielle Andry, Dr. Courtney El-Zokm and Dr. Nandi Wijay.

What is a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)?

After childbirth, weight loss or weight gain, and with age, the abdomen becomes stretched out and loses its youthful form. So many women say that no matter what they do at the gym, the excess skin and fat in their lower abdomen simply won’t go away. A Tummy Tuck or abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes this excess skin. Additionally, during the procedure, your TOPS plastic surgeon will bring the abdominal muscles that were separated by pregnancy or weight gain (a condition called rectus diastasis) back together to help bring back your hourglass figure. These specialized suture techniques serve as an internal corset to help cinch in your waist and define your curves. In most cases, liposuction of the abdomen and love handles is performed to accentuate your waist and maximize your results. This liposculpting technique, as well as internal sculpting sutures, help to really define your abdomen, creating a sculpted, sexy look. The TOPS plastic surgeons then resculpt your belly button through a new hole in the skin after the skin from the top of your abdomen is pulled down.

On some occasions, the TOPS plastic surgeons can perform what is called a mini Tummy Tuck. This is reserved for women or men who have very limited excess skin and only require a small amount of skin removal and limited tightening of the abdominal muscles. Women who are typically the best candidates for mini Tummy Tuck have only a small pooch overlying their c-section scar.

"Massive Weight Loss"

Occasionally, men or women who have undergone massive weight loss or have other medical issues with their excess abdominal skin including recurrent infections, rashes, back pain or hygiene and mobility issues can be candidates for insurance approved abdominoplasty or panniculectomy. Depending on the patient’s symptoms, the plastic surgeons at The Oaks Plastic Surgery will work with insurance companies to have your surgery paid for; however, insurance does not usually pay for liposuction or tightening of the muscles with contouring of the abdomen and belly button (umbilicus). Occasionally, the TOPS plastic surgeons see patients who have undergone significant weight loss leaving them with the excess abdominal skin of the upper abdomen or around the belly button that cannot be removed with a traditional abdominoplasty. For these cases, the TOPS plastic surgeons may recommend a corset abdominoplasty or fleur de lis abdominoplasty to remove skin in both horizontal and vertical vectors.

Some women who have undergone significant weight loss or have a lot of laxity of their lower abdominal skin may also have a condition called mons ptosis, where the lower part of the abdomen above the genital region starts to sag down. When necessary, the TOPS plastic surgeons re-suspend or pull up the mons pubis area to correct this.

Why do you want a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) in Houston, Texas?

The TOPS plastic surgeons hear similar stories from many of our patients who have had children or weight fluctuations that have left them with excess abdominal skin and fat that will not go away as much as they diet and exercise. They are embarrassed to wear bathing suits, fitted dresses, or clothing. The excess abdominal skin and fat have taken a toll on their self-confidence and energy level. A Tummy Tuck can help you feel like yourself before children or weight gain and help get you back the confidence and waistline you once had. A Tummy Tuck can also remove many of those unwanted stretch marks in your lower abdomen.

After your Tummy Tuck or abdominoplasty, you will be placed in an abdominal binder or garment. You will have a light dressing covering the incisions. Swelling is typical after Tummy Tuck. You may shower 24 hrs after the procedure. The TOPS plastic surgeons employ a multimodal pain regimen to decrease your need for narcotic pain medication, which allows our patients to recover quickly and feel more like themselves soon after surgery. This includes a long-lasting injectable anesthetic called Exparel that is injected during the procedure. Our Tummy Tuck patients can expect to return back to work on average of 2-3 weeks.

Initially, TOPS plastic surgeons and staff will see you or communicate with you daily to ensure proper healing. Most of the swelling begins to subside over the first few weeks, but swelling may persist for a few months after the procedure. We advise that you refrain from strenuous activity or heavy lifting greater than 10 lbs for 6 weeks during the healing process.

*Note: This only includes liposuction of the abdomen and flanks area. You may have additional charges for facility fee due to increased operative time.
